WHAT ARE THE MINIMUM RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS?

The system requirements are the following:

  • Processor: 3.0 GHz Pentium 4 or compatible. But the faster the better.
  • RAM: As much as possible. We recommend upgrading your computer or laptop to the maximum memory supported by your machine beginning from 512 MB RAM.
  • Hard Drive: Tradecision uses approximately 40MB of hard drive space. But it is better to have more space to store your studies, models and trading systems.
  • Monitor: 17″ monitor with 1280×1024 resolution.
  • Operating System: Windows 2000 or Windows XP (Home or Professional).
  • Internet Connection: Direct (ISDN, Cable Modem, DSL) connection to the Internet.
  • Operating System: Windows 2000 or Windows XP (Home or Professional).

  • Windows NT 4.0 (service pack 3)

For intensive back testing studies, optimizations, multi-input neural models and charts containing multiple objects, we recommend 3GHz Pentium 4 processor and 1GB of RAM.

HOW LONG DOES THE TECHNICAL SUPPORT LAST ONCE THE INDEXTRADER PRODUCT IS PURCHASED?

All registered users are entitled to unlimited free technical support. Our commitment is to provide prompt and detailed answers to all of your requests. There are no limits on the number of requests. Our support team is dedicated to assisting you in improving and achieving your trading goals.

IS THERE ANY ONGOING FEES ONCE I HAVE PURCHASED AN INDEXTRADER PRODUCT?

No. Futures Index Trading Pty Ltd will not charge you any ongoing fees or charges once you have purchased (and paid the one-off fee) for download of the software.

CAN I TRIAL THE SOFTWARE BEFORE I BUY IT?

We do not offer a trial period but rather a seven (7) day cooling off period which is applied. However, once the issued unique security code issued by Futures Index Trading Pty Ltd is activated, the cooling off period is considered void.

WHAT CHART TYPES ARE AVAILABLE TO ME WHEN I USE THE INDEXTRADER ADVANCED?

IndexTrader Advanced charting capabilities allow you to perform the following charts-related operations:

  • View charts in line, candlestick or bar style;
  • Set the chart time frame to minute, daily, weekly or monthly;
  • Use up to 6 visible sub-charts with indicators;
  • Use the most popular drawing tools, including Andrews’ Pitchforks; Fibonacci Retracements, Fibonacci Fans, Fibonacci Extension, Fibonacci Time Zones, Fibonacci Circles; Gann Fan, Gann Grid, Gann Cardinal Squares;
  • Mark bars with buy and sell markers;
  • Use the Data Window to view the price data under the cursor.

WHAT CHART TIMEFRAMES CAN I USE?

IndexTrader Advanced supports minute, daily, weekly or monthly timeframes.

WHERE CAN I FIND INFORMATION ABOUT THE INDICATORS I CAN USE ON THE INDEXTRADER ADVANCED TRADING PROGRAM?

IndexTrader Advanced HelpGuide contains a library with a description of the 100 (plus) most popular built in technical indicators including MACD, RSI, Stochastic, PercentR, Bollinger Bands, Average True Range, and many others.

CAN I BUILD MY OWN TECHNICAL ANALYSIS INDICATOR?

Yes. IndexTrader Advanced allows you the opportunity to create and improve your own custom technical indicators.

CAN I BACKTEST USING INDEXTRADER?

Yes. With IndexTrader Strategy Builder, you can create a workable trading strategy and then historically test it to see how it works.

WHAT IS A STRATEGY PERFORMANCE REPORT?

The IndexTrader Strategy Performance Report assists you in analyzing a strategy, as well as in evaluating its suitability to your trading style and risk preferences. The report provides over 100 performance parameters that can be used to analyze a strategy.  The Strategy Performance Report contains 7 sections:

  • Summary (including Net Profit, Return on Initial Capital. Gross Profit, Gross Loss, Profit/Loss, Commissions paid, Account Size Required, Return on account).
  • Trades (including Number of profitable trades, Number of losing trades, Average profitable trade, Average ratio, Average trade, Average days in profitable trades, Maximum number of days in profitable trade and more).
  • Return (including Initial Capital, Final Capital, Return on Initial Capital, Return on Max Drawdown, Buy & Hold return, Annual rate of return, Buy & Hold annual rate of return).
  • Risk (including Gain to Pain Ratio, Sharpe Ratio, Return Retracement Ratio, Max Equity Drawdown, Net Profit / Largest Losing Trade, Net Profit / Max Drawdown).
  • Drawdown and Run-up (including Max Drawdown, Average Drawdown, Max Run-up, Average Run-up).
  • Outlier Trades (including Positive outlier trades, Negative outlier trades, Total outlier trades).
  • Time Analysis (including Trading period, Bars in the market, % in the market, Bars out of the Wmarket, Average time in trades, Average time between trades).

WHAT IS STRATEGY SIMULATION?

Before you risk your trading account, IndexTrader Advanced can perform a realistic trading simulation and inform you about the performance of your trading ideas. Strategy analysis is a vital stage of the strategy development process. When you insert your strategy into an active chart, a new simulation is automatically created and all performance reports are generated and stored in the Simulations Manager. This is the fastest way to simulate and analyze a strategy. With the IndexTrader Simulation Wizard, you can simulate one strategy with different symbols at once. Moreover, within one run of just one simulation you can back-test several strategies with one symbol. In both cases, you can easily compare the results. IndexTrader Simulations Manager enables easily creating, running and storing any number of simulations.

WHAT IS STRATEGY OPTIMISATION?

Optimisation is the process of performing multiple tests while varying the parameters used in the strategy rules or technical analytics indicators. The purpose of optimisation is to discover the most profitable settings for a specific indicator or rule when applied to a specific security. Optimisation can greatly expand your knowledge of each strategy and your competence in what works in different types of markets. Optimisation allows you to experiment with the parameters of your strategy without changing its main functions.

WHY IS MONEY MANAGEMENT IMPORTANT FOR ME?

Sound money management and risk control are the key factors in being a profitable trader.

WHAT MONEY MANAGEMENT TOOLS DOES INDEXTRADER ADVANCED HAVE AVAILABLE FOR ME TO USE?

For your convenience, the most popular money management rules are predefined and easily accessible with an advanced point-and-click editor using IndexTrader Advanced including:

  • Position size can be automatically calculated using Optimal F, Kelly, Fixed Fractional Trades and Williams formulas;
  • Stop-loss rules that can be applied with a simply a couple of clicks;
  • Trailing stop rule can also be easily defined as a combination of predefined conditions;
  • You can also opt to use a predefined Profit Target;

To test your own money management rules, you can define them using the IndexTrader Advanced Formula Language. The New Strategy dialog box contains special controls for defining and editing your stop-loss, trailing stop and profit target rules. You can create the same or separate rules for long and short trades.

WHAT IS A TRAILING STOP?

A trailing Stop is a stop-loss order that follows the prevailing price trend.This rule allows a trader to set a limit on the maximum possible loss without setting a limit on the maximum possible gain. Placing Contingent Orders may not limit your losses to the intended amounts.

WHAT KINDS OF DATA PROVIDER FEEDS DOES INDEXTRADER ADVANCED SUPPORT?

The IndexTrader Advanced Data Manager subsystems support receiving data from several data sources including: • Built-in downloader provides a quick way of receiving free end-of-day quotes from International exchanges through Yahoo Finance data provider. • User-configurable ASCII import wizard allows you to read quotes stored on your local hard drive in the format defined by you. • Built-in MetaStock® database importer reads all stocks directly from your MetaStock database.

CAN I IMPORT METASTOCK DATA?

Yes. You can import the entire MetaStock database (symbols and their data) using the following procedure:

  • From the IndexTrader Advanced File menu, select Import MetaStock database.
  • In the Folders’ view dialog box, select the folder that contains the MetaStock database.
  • Click Import

WHAT IS STREAMING DATA?

Usually, using intraday data is most efficient when this data is used during the trading.

The process of receiving intraday data in real time is called “streaming”. In other words, the data is “streaming” from your data provider via the Internet into the IndexTrader Advanced Data Manager.

WHERE MY REAL-TIME DATA WILL BE SAVED?

Intraday data collected from real-time data provider(s) is kept locally on your hard drive.

The data may require a large amount of hard drive space, depending on how many securities you are following and the periodicity you prefer.

WHO IS THE NEWS FEED PROVIDER?

IndexTrader Advanced supports a live news feed provided by Reuters.

WHAT IS THE TRADERX CODE EDITOR?

The TraderX Code editor is a full-featured programming language. It gives you a variety of opportunities to implement your own trading ideas. For example, you can design a trading system or improve an existing study or indicator.

CAN I HAVE A NEW STRATEGY WRITTEN FOR ME?

Yes. Although you can develop and write a new strategy with the TraderX Code Editor, we are able to perform the coding on your behalf. Simply email support@futuresindextrading.com.au with a description of the strategy you would like and we will do the rest for a nominal hourly fee.

WHAT IF NEED ASSISTANCE WITH THE INSTALLATION AND SET-UP OF INDEXTRADER ADVANCED?

If assistance is required in regards to the initial installation and set-up of IndexTrader Advanced which cannot be solved via the normal troubleshooting processes, our support team can schedule a suitable time and using desktop sharing technologies, securely log in to your computer and perform these functions for you.

IS INDEXTRADER COMPATIBLE WITH MY APPLE MAC?

We currently do not have a Mac-based version of IndexTrader. However, some customers have reported success using Boot Camp, VMware, and Parallel’s software. At the present time, we have no plans to create a version of the software native to OS X.

CAN I INSTALL INDEXTRADER ON MULTIPLE COMPUTERS?

No. IndexTrader tecnologies are subscription based application whereby one security key is generated per customer, per computer.

CAN REPRESENTATIVES OF FUTURES INDEX TRADING P/L TRADE MY MONEY FOR ME?

No. We are not licensed or authorised to do so.

I HAVE NEVER TRADED BEFORE – IS INDEXTRADER ADVANCED DIFFICULT TO USE?

No. We have developed IndexTrader technologies specifically, with simplicity in mind, for the everyday non-traders. We have endeavoured to make the trading process as automated and user friendly as possible. There is no additional requirement for coding or charting.

WHAT MARKETS CAN I TRADE?

Using IndexTrader Advanced, you can trade global stocks, mutual funds, indicies, FOREX and futures markets.
